MANILA, Philippines – Dismissed Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Gup will file a motion for reconsideration before the Office of the Ombudsman hoping to reverse its decision, said lawyer Stephen David.
In a statement sent to the media, David expressed disappointment over the Ombudsman’s decision but will seek reconsideration.
“Well, it is unfortunate that the Office of the Ombudsman did not see the merit of the argument of the respondent mayor,” he said.
“Nonetheless, we are preparing for the motion for reconsideration as a prerequisite for filing an appeal with the Court of Appeals,” he said.
On Tuesday, the Ombudsman ordered the dismissal of Guo, along with several others over grave misconduct following her alleged involvement in the proliferation of offshore gaming operators in her town.
Interior Secretary Benhur Abalos announced that Municipal Councilor Erano Timbang will be temporarily assuming the role of mayor for three months. The Ombudsman said Timbang was excluded from the Ombudsman’s order because he opposed the issuance of permits to the questioned POGO facility.
On top of her dismissal, Guo is also facing a tax evasion case filed by the Bureau of Internal Revenue for her supposed failure to pay P500,000.00 over the sale of her property Baofu Land which housed Zun Yuan Technology and Hongsheng Gaming Technology Inc., the two raided POGO companies
The Commission on Elections also filed a formal complaint of material misrepresentation against the dismissed town chief for her supposed blatant dishonesty in her records.
Additionally, the Philippine National Police – Criminal Investigation and Detection Group and the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission also filed a qualified human trafficking case against Guo for her alleged connection to human trafficking of 500 foreign individuals working for the raided POGO facility.
Guo, as well as her family, remains at large.
