MANILA, Philippines – FLOOD control efforts for 2025 will have a quarter of a trillion budget as proposed by the Department of Budget and Management.

“The water resources development and flood control sub-sector is provided P257.06 billion largely attributed to the DPWH’s Flood Management Program (P254.29 billion) that will construct and maintain flood mitigation structures and drainage systems,”  according to the National Expenditure Program.

It also states that next year, an allocation of P861.24 billion is proposed for communications, roads, and other transport sub-sectors for infrastructure projects.

Burden and debt payment to creditors get a share of P876.73 billion whereas interest payments are given P848.03 billion.

According to the Bureau of Treasury, the country’s sovereign debt hit P15.35 trillion as of end-May.

Government flood control was put in question when massive flooding ravaged the country’s capital region only two days after President Marcos Jr.’s  announcement that 5500 completed and ongoing flood control projects have been accomplished by his administration.
