MANILA, Philippines – Have floods and rains failed to wash “sibling rivalry?”

SEN. Imee Marcos on Thursday criticized the current administration’s flood control projects, or lack of it, following the massive flooding in the country’s capital region as an aftermath of Typhoon Carina and Habagat.

In an interview, Senator Marcos seemed to pull a slight jab at her brother, President Marcos, for what seems to be failure of flood control efforts which the latter laid as among the successful projects of his administration in his recent State of the Nation Address last July 22.

The eldest of the Marcos siblings expressed disappointment at the widespread flooding since both chambers of Congress, the Senate and the House of Representatives did not fall short in providing an ample budget for the country’s flood control efforts.

“Kauumpisa lamang ng ating rainy season, nasa Hulyo palang tayo ganito na ang kalagayan natin,” she said in a disappointed tone.

“Isa pa, medyo nakakapikon kasi sa totoo lang hindi naman nagkulang ang congress at ang senado sa pagbibigay ng pera para sa flood control. Kung tutusiin 450 billion, halos 1.4 billion a day ang flood control budget.”

She then questioned where all the money went considering the damage caused by the government’s failure to do its job.

“Kung isusuma tutal mo, lahat ng agencies mula sa DPWH pababa asan napunta ‘yung pera? ‘Yun ang tanong,” she said.

It was not the first time the senator criticized her brother and his administration.

The entire Metro Manila, including some nearby provinces such as Bataan, Bulacan, Batangas and Cavite have already declared a state of calamity amid damages caused by Habagat and Carina.
