MANILA, Philippines – Members of iconic ‘90s rock band Eraseheads each received a Gawad Oblation award from their alma mater, the University of the Philippines – Diliman for their outstanding contributions to Philippine music as well as to the university.

Ely Buendia, Buddy Zabala, Raymund Marasigan and Marcus Adoro, all students of UP back in college were present at the event held at UP Diliman on Tuesday.

UP System President, lawyer Angelo Jimenez, said the Gawad Oblation Award, first launched in 2017 was the “highest distinction that our university can bestow. It is of our deep gratitude for the extraordinary service rendered with or in our name, in the name of UP.”

Ely thanked UP for “giving us the foundation to create, explore, and challenge the status quo.”

“Thank you for instilling in us the courage to pursue our passions and the responsibility to use our platform for good,” he said.

After years of separation, Eraserheads reunited for a sold-out megahit reunion concert titled “Huling El Bimbo” in 2022 held at the SMDC Festival Grounds.

They also did a world tour in the US and Canada and were set to do more shows this year.
