Even the best of foes can be related.

Not a few asked why the Aquino descendants would pay visit to a Marcos, but it happened. Bimby and Joshua Aquino, sons of actress and TV host Kris, did so because they personally extended their gratitude to First Lady Liza Marcos for helping them with their travel arrangements.

President Bong Bong Marcos himself clarified the reason for the visit of the Aquino siblings in an interview in Rizal. An official statement was also released by the Presidential Communications Office on Wednesday, July 10 giving clarity to the visit.

The visit of Joshua and Bimby to the First Lady was “personal” according to the chief executive.

“I think it was just to help them for their travel arrangements. So, tumulong si First Lady at ‘yun lang. Sabi lang magpapasalamat sila,” the President said.

“And so — I think it was a very fine gesture on the part of the Aquino family. I think it was — it sort of I suppose put a little more — how do you say — personal, a human interaction between our families,” he added.

Unlikely it may seem for an Aquino to ask for favors from a Marcos or vis-a-vis, the President said he believes it was Kris, who is in the US for medication, “needed some assistance for something.”

The 53-year-old actress is diagnosed with several autoimmune diseases and has been fighting for her life for years now. Her health however is showing some improvement and if tests would be good, she would likely be allowed to continue her medication in the Philippines by late this year.

Why will a Marcos help an Aquino? They are relatives.

Marcos Jr. revealed that his wife’s auntie Rosario Cacho is married to Don Pepe Cojuanco, the eldest brother of the late democracy icon Cory Aquino, making the First Lady an aunt to Joshua and Bimby.

“So, they are related. Kaya’t hindi naman nakakapagtaka, kilang-kilala niya si – kilalang kilala niya ‘yung mga pamangkin niya very well. So, that – and so, they came at nagbiyahe sila, bumalik may dalang pasalubong. Iyon lang naman. Dinala nila ‘yung pasalubong kay First Lady,”  PCO release said quoting the President.

President Marcos said the Aquinos and the Marcoses have always been okay, “we just don’t agree politically.”
