MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Coast Guard said that the MV Mirola Uno has now been towed and moored in Bataan while the ongoing oil recovery in MTKR Terranova remains ongoing.

In a situation report, the Philippine Coast Guard said that the MV Mirola Uno, the third tanker that ran aground in the waters of Bataan has now been towed and moored and is currently at the Bataan shipyard for repair.

The MV Mirola 1 was floated last Thursday after repairs were made to its hull and seawater was removed. The vessel had run aground near Sitio Quiapo in Barangay Biaan on July 31. It was unregistered and had no clearance to sail, according to PCG.

The PCG likewise reported that the MTKR Terranova, which was the first motor tanker to sink in Bataan, citing reports from the contracted salvor Harbor Star that over 161,612 liters of oil had now been collected from August 19 to 22.

Authorities said earlier that it can siphon off 200,000 liters per day.

BRP Sindangan (MRRV-4407) conducted drone aerial surveillance and utilized water canon to agitate the minimal oil sheen observed, it said.

The MTKR Terranova sank off the coast of Lamao Point in Limay Bataan last month due to adverse weather conditions, killing one crew member.

The sunken tanker is carrying over 1.4 million liters of industrial fuel oil and is heading to Iloilo at the time of its sinking.

While most efforts are on the MTKR Terranova and the grounded MV Mirola Uno, the PCG said that Fes Challenger, which is working on the MTKR Jason Bradley salvage operations, has been resealing and patching the sunken vessel to prepare it for refloating. 

Authorities reported no oil sheen in the nearby waters during their patrol.
