MANILA, Philippines — A total of 10,483 examinees have taken the first day of the Bar Examinations with women outnumbering men in the roster of takers, the Supreme Court said. 

In a news release, the High Court said that  this year’s takers are slightly higher than the 10,400 which took the first day of the Bar Exams in 2023.

The SC said that 12,246 applicants signed up for the exams, but Justice Mario Lopez,Chairperson of the 2024 Bar Examinations Committee, noted that some either didn’t graduate or faced unexpected issues, leading them to withdraw.

Lopez said that females outnumbered males among the examinees, with 6,108 women compared to 4,375 men. The group includes 155 senior citizens and 313 individuals with special needs. The youngest examinee is 23 years old, and the oldest is 78.

Justice Lopez provided a breakdown of the number of examinees for the 2024 Bar Examinations at each of the 13 local testing centers nationwide:

National Capital Region:

  – University of the Philippines-Diliman, Quezon City: 1,023

  – University of Santo Tomas, Sampaloc, Manila: 785

  – San Beda University, San Miguel, Manila: 1,455

  – Manila Adventist College, Pasay City: 438

  – University of the Philippines-Bonifacio Global City, Taguig: 739

  – San Beda College Alabang, Muntinlupa City: 579

Luzon:

  – Saint Louis University, Baguio City: 1,158

  – University of Nueva Caceres, Naga City, Camarines Sur: 527

Visayas:

  – University of San Jose-Recoletos, Basak Campus, Cebu City: 1,055

  – Central Philippine University, Jaro, Iloilo City: 582

Mindanao:

  – Dr. V. Orestes Romualdez Educational Foundation, Tacloban City: 461

  – Xavier University, Cagayan de Oro City: 598

  – Ateneo de Davao University, Bangkal, Davao City: 1,081

A total of 2,316 personnel have been deployed across all 13 local testing centers nationwide to ensure the smooth running of the 2024 Bar Exams.

Following the format of the previous three exams, this year’s Bar Exams are digitalized and regionalized. The results are tentatively scheduled for release in early December, with the oath-taking and Roll of Attorneys signing set for January 24, 2025.

The exams will be held over three days: September 8, 11, and 15.

Day 1 (September 8):

  – Morning: Political Law and Public International Law

  – Afternoon: Commercial and Taxation Laws

Day 2 (September 11):

  – Morning: Civil Law

  – Afternoon: Labor Law and Social Legislation

Day 3 (September 15):

  – Morning: Criminal Law

  – Afternoon: Remedial Law, Legal and Judicial Ethics with Practical Exercises
