MANILA, Philippines – Sen. Robin Padilla is now officially the party president of Partido Demokratiko Pilipino (PDP) ten months ahead of the 2025 midterm elections replacing Palawan Rep. Jose Chaves Alvarez, who resigned from the position.

The PDP released a statement about Padilla’s assumption of the presidency expressing confidence about the actor-turned-politician’s leadership.

“As the new PDP president, Sen. Padilla will continue to consolidate the party membership and prepare for the 2025 midterm elections, which Rep. (Jose) Alvarez started,” the PDP said in a statement.

“We are confident that under Sen. Padilla’s leadership, the party is in good hands and will continue to be a major force for reform and development in the country,” it said.

Padilla has said he would accept the position “if I see that I can do good things and I can help my fellow Filipinos.”

Alvarez led the party in the last 20 months.

Last April, PDP-Laban’s leaders opted to drop the word Laban.mped 471 millimeters of rainfall between Wednesday midnight and Thursday midnight, surpassing the 455 millimeters recorded within 24 hours during Ondoy in 2009.
