MANILA, Philippines — Poland’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Radosław Sikorski is set to visit the Philippines Tuesday, ahead of the 50th anniversary of the Philippines and the latter’s establishment of diplomatic relations, the Department of Foreign Affairs said Monday.

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) announced that Polish Minister of Foreign Affairs Radosław Sikorski will make an official visit to the Philippines from September 3 to 5. This visit aligns with the 50th anniversary celebrations of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Diplomatic ties between Poland and the Philippines were first established on September 22, 1973.

This will be the first solo visit by a Polish Foreign Minister to the Philippines. Minister Sikorski had previously visited the country in 2006 while serving as Defense Minister.

During his trip, which is part of a broader tour of Southeast Asia, Minister Sikorski will meet with Secretary for Foreign Affairs Enrique A. Manalo to discuss ways to enhance Philippines-Poland relations and to exchange views on regional and international matters.

He will also hold discussions with other senior Philippine government officials, the DFA said.

The Polish Embassy in Manila, which had previously operated from 1981 to 1982 and again from 1991 to 1993, was reopened on January 2, 2018. Meanwhile, the Embassy of the Philippines in Warsaw was active from 1991 to 1995 and was reestablished in 2009.

United Nations’ International Organization for Migration data showed that about 30,000 Filipinos are currently residing in Poland.
