MANILA, Philippines – An 18-year-old female student and her 27-year-old “not official lover” were arrested in Manila last Sunday, Sept. 1 for alleged abortion.

At about 9:27 p.m. on Sunday, Raxabago Tondo Police Station received a call that an abortion incident happened at the Tondo Medical Center last August 22.

According to a police report, the female suspect, identified as Beana Marielle Ramos Casis, had felt dizzy the past weeks and discovered that she was pregnant. She then informed her partner Czar Spade Rodriguez who despised the news.

“Hindi pwede yan, mapapahiya ako,” Casis said, quoting her partner whom she said gave her P3,400.00 to dispose of their unborn child.

The woman bought Cytotec, a medication used for treatment of stomach ulcers. However, administration of this drug to pregnant women can cause birth defects, abortion, premature birth or uterine rupture.

Report said she took 12 pieces of the drug on August 22 which caused her non-stop bleeding.

At about 8:00 p.m of September 1, she was rushed to Tondo Medical Center and admitted. Her attending physician was Dr. Xhian Ira Sy. Accordingly, the fetus was around five  weeks old.
