MANILA, Philippines – The entire National Capital Region is now officially under a State of Calamity following massive floods caused by relentless rains brought by southwest monsoon Habagat, enhanced by Tropical Cyclone Carina Wednesday.

The Metro Manila Council made the decision as a result of a meeting presided by Interior secretary Benhur Abalos Jr. who had earlier recommended the move to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. during a briefing on the country’s status as Carina and Habagat continue their onslaught.

The declaration of a state of calamity allows the government to use its quick response funds to address the damages caused by a particular catastrophe as well as a price freeze on all basic goods requiring strict agency/ies monitoring to prevent overpricing, profiteering or hoarding.
