CALAMBA, Laguna – A maritime school cadet in Calamba, Laguna died from severe punishment from his senior class officer supposedly just over a wrong reaction in their group chat.
The victim, identified as 19-year-old Vince Andrew Delos Reyes from Baco, Oriental Mindoro. was a student at a maritime school in Barangay Canlubang, Calamba City.
According to Calamba police, the victim was hanging out with four other classmates in their barracks when they were called up by their senior class officer because of an “offense.” The incident happened on Monday, July 8.
Allegedly, Delos Reyes accidentally sent a “thumbs up” reaction to their group chat.
As a form of punishment, their senior class officer gave Delos Reyes a series of physical exercises. He felt shortness of breath then he collapsed.
The boy was immediately brought to the infirmary but his condition worsened and was brought to the hospital but was dead on arrival.
The suspect is now detained at the Calamba police station and is facing criminal charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide.
