MANILA, Philippines – The combined wrath of Typhoon Enteng and southwest monsoon Habagat quickly raised water levels in Marikina River to 16.7 meters as of 11:55 a.m. prompting the local government to sound off its second alarm on Monday, September 2.

In its Facebook page, the Marikina City Public Information Office announced that water levels in the river quickly rose to 16 meters as early as 8:32 a.m.

Second alarm means evacuation is already advised. When water reaches a third alarm, a forced evacuation is already in place.

Several areas in Luzon are under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal 2 as Enteng heads towards Polillo Islands Monday morning, state weather bureau PAGASA said.

Classes have been suspended in some Luzon and Visayas due to inclement weather. In Metro Manila, government work and classes in public and private schools were also suspended.
