MANILA, Philippines – Water levels in Marikina River have reached a third alarm which means forced evacuation of residents in low-lying areas is now underway due to Typhoon Carina and the southwest monsoon or Habagat, the local government said Wednesday. 

As of 3:15 p.m., water level in the Marikina River has already reached 20.5 meters according to the Marikina Public Information Office. 

In a radio interview, Marikina City Mayor Marcelino Teodoro said rescue personnel have been in place since Tuesday and that the city’s 36 evacuation sites are ready to take on evacuees. 

Meanwhile, Metro Manila has already been placed under a state of calamity following massive floods within the national capital region. 

State weather bureau has already issued a red rainfall warning as of 2 p.m.  to  Zambales, Bataan, Metro Manila, Rizal, Bulacan, Pampanga and Tarlac.
Yellow rainfall warning is up on Cavite, Batangas, Laguna, Nueva Ecija and Quezon (General Nakar, Infanta, Real, Mauban, Sampaloc).
