MANILA, Philippines – About 979 schools won’t join the nationwide opening of classes for school year 2023-2024 on Monday, July 29 still due to the impact of the effects of Typhoon Carina and Habagat last week. 

The Department of Education has released a full list of schools all over the country that won’t make it to the July 29 opening of classes. 

The list shows Central Luzon as having the most number of school class suspensions with 452, followed by the Ilocos Region with 231, Metro Manila with 225 schools, Calabarzon with 67 schools, and Soccsksargen with four.

Education chief Sonny Angara ordered a case-by-case approach to President Marcos Jr.’s order to open school as scheduled except in areas still severely damagphoon and the monsoon ravaged the capital region last week. Among the most memorable scenes that went viral on social media was the collision of several barges that came from Marikina river with F. Manalo bridge in the city. One died from the incident.
