MANILA, Philippines – CONTRARY to growing public perception that Angelica Yulo, mother of two-time Olympic gold medalist Carlos Yulo, was able to contract the services of lawyer Raymund Fortun because she is now “moneyed,” he clarified that he is representing the Yulo matriarch for free.
Soon after posting on Facebook that the Olympian’s mother was bent on filing cybercrime charges against spreaders of false information about her and her family, the matriarch called for a press conference Tuesday to put a stop on the issues surrounding her family.
“Hindi ko po pinagkakakitaan at pagkakakitaan itong pagrerepresenta ko kay Mrs. Yulo,” Fortun said.
“Ang akin pong representation dito ay purely pro bono sapagkat ang paniniwala ko ay ang aking gagawin bilang abogado ay para sa bayan din dahil ang gusto ko pong mangyari ay linisin ‘yun pong maduduming pananalita ng mga netizen,” he said.
Fortun pointed out that the problems coming out on social media about the Yulo family were “ordinary” problems of any family anywhere in the world.
Financial issues within the family as well as those concerning a mother and her son’s romantic partner, Fortun said, should likewise not be taken into the limelight.
“Hindi na po natin palalakihin pa ‘yang issue na ‘yan bakit kasi hindi naman dapat na pinag-uusapan sa media yang bagay na ‘yan,” he said.
