Five executives of the Department of Education quit the agency ahead of the takeover of its newly-appointed chief, Sen. Sonny Angara, this week.
Angara will assume the helm of the education sector starting July 19, following the resignation of Vice President Sara Duterte.
The executives who will bid goodbye to the agency ahead of its change in leadership are Under Secretary Michael Poa – Duterte’s chief of staff, Undersecretary for Administration Nolasco Mempin, Assistant Secretary Sunshine Fajarda, Assistant Secretary for Procurement Reynold Munsayac and Assistant Secretary for Administration Noel Baluyan.
Their resignation is also effective on the same day as Duterte.
“I think it is only appropriate to give the incoming Secretary of Education, Secretary Angara, a free hand to choose the people that will form part of his team,” Poa told reporters.
In a statement shortly after his new appointment, Angara said he was open to collaborating with Duterte’s appointees in the DepEd to “build on the policies she has started.”
President Marcos accepted the resignation of Duterte dated June 19 and immediately moved to find a replacement. The chief executive has not commented on his personal relationship with the outgoing DepEd chief and co-vice chairperson of the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict.
