MANILA, Philippines — Overseas FIlipino Workers (OFWs) in distress could get up to P100,000 in financial assistance, according to the Department of Migrant Workers.

According to the DMMW Department Order No. 05 series of 2024, the financial aid that these distressed OFWs could get vary depending on the situation of the OFW and his/her family.

The standard amount of assistance is set at P50,000, P75,000, and P100,000.

OFWs and their family could get P100,000 if the next of kin of OFWs who died in the host country due to natural or accidental causes, as well as those of OFWs who died within one year of returning to the Philippines.

The DMW also said that OFWs with severe illness, injury, or mental health conditions, those who suffer abuse, war, or political unrest, and the next of kin of OFWs on death row are entitled to receive PHP 75,000 in financial assistance.

OFWs severely affected or displaced due to economic downturns, company closures, job retrenchment, abuse, exploitation, illegal recruitment, or natural disasters in the host country, as well as the next of kin of incarcerated OFWs, will receive P50,000 in assistance, it said

The DMW previously provided P30,000 to P50,000 in assistance to OFWs and their families through the Agarang Kalinga at Saklolo para sa mga OFWs na Nangangailangan (AKSYON) Fund.

The DMW Aksyon Fund is designated for legal, medical, financial, and other forms of assistance to OFWs, including repatriation, shipment of human remains, evacuation, rescue, and similar aid to protect the rights of Filipino nationals. This financial assistance is a one-time cash grant provided to qualified beneficiaries.

“The request for financial assistance along with the required documents stated under Department Order No. 05, Series of 2023 shall be submitted onsite through the Migrant Workers Office (MWO), or to the DMW if the worker is already in the Philippines, within one (1) year after the arrival in the country,” the order said.
