MANILA, Philippines — Approximately 694,000 Filipino voters have been removed from the official list of qualified voters for the next elections, the Commission on Elections said.

The poll body data reported that a total of 693,558 registered voters have been removed from the list.

Among them, 249,343 were removed due to death, as confirmed by the local civil registrars. Additionally, 220,644 voters were taken off the list after choosing to transfer to a different city or municipality.

Comelec revealed that the Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) detected 179,141 cases of double registration, resulting in the immediate erasure of those records. Additionally, 42,236 voters were purged from the list after applying to become overseas voters.

An additional 2,194 voters with duplicate entries were also struck off the list.

Overall, the poll body registered 67,839,861 voters during the 2023 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE).

In July, the Comelec had already deleted a total of 5,105,191 registered voters and also deleted 248,972 people from the national list of registered voters.

It also said that most of the deactivated voters were struck off the list for failing to vote in two consecutive regular elections—the May 2022 national and local elections, and the October 30, 2023, BSKE.

Others faced deactivation due to court orders, failure to validate their records, loss of citizenship, or convictions for serious offenses, the poll body said.
