MANILA, Philippines — The death toll due to severe tropical storm Enteng has climbed to 15 while 21 remain missing, the Office of Civil Defense said Wednesday.

In a report, the OCD aside from the 15 deaths and 21 missing, there 15 individuals who were confirmed injured.

The partial reported deaths came from the following areas: 

  • Rizal: Eight people died from drowning and landslides.  
  • Negros Occidental: One person died from drowning.  
  • Cebu City: Two people died from landslides and a collapsed riprap.  
  • Northern Samar: Two people died, cause unknown.  
  • Naga: Two people died from electrocution and drowning.

More injured, missing Filipinos

Fifteen fisherfolk are missing in Camarines Norte, three in Samar, two in Northern Samar, and one in Biliran.

In Cebu City, ten people were injured due to a collapsed riprap and rain-induced landslides. Northern Samar reported four injuries, and one person in Naga was injured by electrocution.

According to the OCD, Typhoon Enteng has affected 1,720,563 individuals, with about 88,077 still in evacuation centers.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has sent 133,000 family food packs to areas affected by Tropical Storm Enteng.

DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian told Marcos that the agency is also preparing an additional 100,000 family food packs for the storm-hit residents in the country.

The official also said that the food packs for “Enteng” victims could reach 250,000

During a public briefing, President Marcos has directed local government units to monitor dams and prepare for possible drowning due to the heavy rainfall brought by “Enteng.”

“Kung patuloy pa rin ang pag-ulan na mabigat…Mapilitan tayo na magbitaw ng tubig,” he said.

Severe tropical storm Enteng is expected to bring heavy rainfall across the country until Friday as it intensifies the southwest monsoon, or habagat, which is causing widespread rain in several parts of Luzon.
