MANILA, Philippines – Chickens in a commercial farm in Tarlac province tested positive for Bird Flu, the Philippine Egg Board Association (PEBA) said.

PEBA president Francis Uyehara said the chickens were already sold prior to the discovery of the infection.

“The chickens were being transported when they died. Upon examination, the chickens tested positive for bird flu,” he said.

This is why the PEBA urged the Department of Department of Agriculture and the Food and Drug Administration to act on the speedy approval of the bird flu vaccine.

According to the World Health Organization, Bird Flu or Avian Influenza is an infection that spreads among birds and could affect humans. It can be acquired from direct contact with infected poultry or contaminated environments.

The WHO said these viruses can result in mild to severe illnesses and even death. It also has the potential to mutate to become more contagious.
