MANILA, Philippines — A total of 99 overseas Filipino workers have arrived in the Philippines from Kuwait and Lebanon amid escalating tensions, the Overseas Workers and Welfare Administration said.

In a report, OWWA said that of the 99 repatriated OFWs late Thursday, 79 of them are from Kuwait including five dependents and the remaining 20 are from Lebanon.

This came more than two months after the Department of Migrant Workers said it is poised to resume sending workers to Kuwait. While OFWs in Lebanon are being urged by the Philippine Embassy in Beirut to leave the country as conflict between Iran-backed group Hezbollah and Israel escalates.

“The embassy continues to extend its services and support, especially to OFWs in remote areas,” the embassy said.

The embassy has retained its Alert Level 3 status in Lebanon which means Filipinos are allowed for voluntary repatriation.

According to OWWA, the repatriated OFWs have now received immediate assistance upon arrival including food, transportation, and hotel accommodation.

OFWs who want to go back to their provinces will be given aid as well, OWWA said.
