MANILA, Philippines — Three foreign nationals who are tagged as “illegal aliens” in the country have been caught on three different occasions after they presented their new passports in the national office, the Bureau of Immigration said Monday.

Commissioner Norman Tansingco disclosed that immigration regulation division officers intercepted three foreign nationals on separate occasions when they reported their newly issued passports to the bureau.

According to immigration regulations, foreign nationals must report their new passports and travel documents to have their latest entry and visa details transferred from their old passport.

Officers arrested a 25-year-old Chinese man, Song Tiancheng, after discovering he was a wanted fugitive facing charges of contractual fraud in China.

A deportation case had been filed against him earlier this year after Chinese authorities notified the Bureau of Immigration (BI) about his pending legal issues.

In another operation, authorities intercepted a 51-year-old Taiwanese man, Tu En Cheng, who was identified as the subject of a summary deportation order issued by the BI’s board of commissioners in 2020. Tu was marked as a fugitive in Taiwan for fraud, leading the BI to declare him undesirable.

The next day, a 39-year-old Chinese woman named Dong Baolian was also arrested as a fugitive wanted for fraud in China. She is allegedly associated with a company that developed an application used to defraud victims of over CNY 1.54 million or P12.2 million in Philippine currency.

“All three aliens will remain in the BI’s holding facility pending deportation,” Tansingco said.
